Beyond Waste 2027
Recycling of materials from atoms to systems

Beyond Waste 2027 is an international scientific conference organized in Lille, France, from March 16 to 18, 2027, by the PEPR “Recycling, Recyclability, and Reuse.” It will bring together experts from around the world to discuss research topics related to recycling, eco-design, and material circularity.

Recycling is a multidisciplinary field of research that encompasses chemistry, physics, and computer science, as well as law, economics, social sciences, and more. To address this significant societal challenge and propose effective solutions, it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach—from materials to systems, and from atoms to actions.

Beyond Waste 2027 will feature parallel sessions that delve into topics related to materials (plastics, composite materials, strategic metals, textiles, and paper and cardboard), as well as sector-specific issues (WEEE, new energy technologies—photovoltaics, wind power, hydrogen, batteries, and household waste) and interdisciplinary themes incorporating digital technology and the humanities and social sciences. Plenary sessions will also cover broader, general topics related to politics, the economy, and environmental issues.

Supported by PEPR Recyclage, a scientific program led by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) that brings together more than 300 scientists from nearly 100 laboratories across the country, Beyond Waste aims to build an international research network focused on these issues. Over the three days of the conference, the goal is to bring together the global scientific community and showcase the diversity and richness of research on recycling and the circular economy of materials—topics that cannot be addressed by a single scientific discipline.
