Composite Materials axis
general assembly
The general assembly of RecyComp, a scientific project of the Composite Materials axis of the PEPR, took place last week at the premises of IMT Mines Alès.
All of the project partners, 29 researchers from 9 different laboratories, were present alongside the two project leaders, Cyril Aymonier (CNRS-ICMCB) and Isabelle Capron (INRAE-BIA). This was an opportunity to take stock together of the progress of each research project.

The goal of the RecyComp project is to develop new generations of recyclable organic matrix composites (OMCs) from recycled raw materials. Often of fossil origin, most OMC components cannot be easily separated from one another. They are therefore difficult to recycle. Most composites therefore end up in landfills or incinerated, harming their environmental assessment.
Through its research, the RecyComp project aims to contribute to three stages of waste management:
- Prevention: Improve the recyclability of composites by designing composites with adhesive solutions derived from sustainable resources and that are thermolabile, stimuli-reactive, soluble in green solvents, or offer depolymerization capabilities.
- Preparation for reuse: Maximize the number of recycled/recyclable components, minimize the number of components, and facilitate end-of-life recycling.
- Recycling: Ensure dismantling and separation using innovative technologies such as subcritical and supercritical solvolysis or solvolysis in a twin-screw extruder for the production of recycled raw materials (RRMs), and replace difficult-to-recycle matrices with easily recyclable ones.
